Club careerFluminenseWendel had a truly meteoric growth in Brazilian football. Starting out in the modest Sport Club Tigres do Brasil young teams in 2017 he was appointed to Flamengo, but eventually went to Fluminense where he excelled in the U-20s and it did not take long for Abel Braga to pitch to the main team, which happened in February 2017. From then until he became an absolute starter of the midfield was only a step, but as if that was not enough, quickly came to be considered as one of the great promises of Brazilian football, mainly thanks to the verticality and objectivity of his game that make him a very strong driver in the transport of ball, which became a complete player, very fast, with good technique and an easy shot. Sporting Clube PortugalAt the end of the year his name began to be spoken of as possible reinforcement of Paris Saint Germain but the problems of this club with the rules of financial fair play prevented the business from advancing and eventually Sporting Clube de Portugal took advantage of the impasse guaranteeing the contest of the young Brazilian player, who in January 2018 signed a contract valid until 2023, with a termination clause fixed at 60 million Euros. The deal was made for 7.5 million Euros with Fluminense having 10 percent of a future added value in the sale of the player. Wendel had an initial difficulty adapting to the tempo and tactics of the European football which led to low playing time in the first months of the year. In the beginning of the 2018–19 campaign, and especially after the appointment of Marcel Keiser as manager of the club, Wendel became an important member of the squad and a usual starter for team. In the beginning of December Wendel suffered a left knee sprain which sidelined him for 2 months. Career statisticsClub{{updated|6 January 2018}}
