Legislative elections were held in Kazakhstan on 19 September 2004. The Fatherland party won 42 of the 77 seats in the Mazhilis.

Results

Media bias is an issue with election watchdogs. The parties, Fatherland Party and All-Together Republican Party, which are pro-president of Kazakhstan are being allowed much more

television air-time. Dariga Nazarbayeva is the daughter of the current President Nazarbayev.

Electronic voting will be used for the first time by 15% of voters. The Sailau system will be used. It is based on technology developed in Belarus.
