An intensely private woman, little is known about her life.[2] She was married to Michael Madonick, a poet and fiction writer; they had three children. In 1997, Kelly was named Lamont Poet at Phillips Exeter Academy. She taught at the University of California at Irvine, Purdue University, and Warren Wilson College.[1] Along with Madonick, Kelly was a professor of English and Rhetoric at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.[3][4] She died on October 14, 2016 in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois.[5][6] Awards- 2008: Fellowship of the Academy of American Poets
