It is classified as a C-type asteroid and is probably composed of carbonaceous material. This object was discovered by Auguste Charlois on July 23, 1895, in Nice, and was named after Theia (sometimes written Thea or Thia), a Titaness in Greek mythology.[1] In 2002, the asteroid was detected by radar from the Arecibo Observatory at a distance of 1.31 AU. The resulting data yielded an effective diameter of {{nowrap|125 ± 16 km}}.[7] References1. ^{{cite book |last=Schmadel |first=Lutz D. |authorlink= |title=Dictionary of Minor Planet Names |url=https://www.scribd.com/doc/5570999/Dictionary-of-Minor-Planet-Names |accessdate= |year=2003 |publisher=Springer |location=Berlin, Heidelberg, New York |isbn=3-540-00238-3 |page=48 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140314234547/http://www.scribd.com/doc/5570999/Dictionary-of-Minor-Planet-Names |archivedate=2014-03-14 |df= }} [2][3]2. ^1 2 3 {{Citation | first1 = B. | last1 = Carry | title = Density of asteroids | work = Planetary and Space Science | volume = 73 | pages = 98–118 |date=December 2012 | doi = 10.1016/j.pss.2012.03.009 | bibcode = 2012P&SS...73...98C | postscript= . | arxiv = 1203.4336 }} See Table 1. 3. ^1 {{citation | display-authors=1 | last1=Magri | first1=Christopher | last2=Nolan | first2=Michael C. | last3=Ostro | first3=Steven J. | last4=Giorgini | first4=Jon D. | title=A radar survey of main-belt asteroids: Arecibo observations of 55 objects during 1999 2003 | journal=Icarus | volume=186 | issue=1 | pages=126–151 | date=January 2007 | doi=10.1016/j.icarus.2006.08.018 | bibcode=2007Icar..186..126M | url=http://echo.jpl.nasa.gov/asteroids/MBAs/magri.etal.2007.mbas.pdf | accessdate=2015-04-14 | postscript=.}} }} External links
