The gmina covers an area of {{convert|47.16|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 6,881 (out of which the population of Olszyna amounts to 4,786, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 2,095). Neighbouring gminasGmina Olszyna is bordered by the gminas of Gryfów Śląski, Leśna and Lubań.
