It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest. SubspeciesTwosubspecies are currently recognized. These subspecies exhibit deep genetic divergence and are likely candidates for future species splits:[2]
