The Cordoba was a crossbreed of Alano Español, Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Bulldog and Boxer.[3]. Its temperament includes being very fierce, very aggressive, strong, vigorous, and [3]relentless (high stamina).[4][5] Other Names· Argentine Fighting Dog · Cordoban Fighting Dog · Cordobese dog · Dog of Cordoba · Fighting Dog of Cordoba · Perro de Presa de Cordoba · Perro de Pelea Cordobés HistoryThe Cordoba Fighting Dog originated in Córdoba, Argentina.[7][6] It was noted for its willingness to fight to the death and its high pain tolerance.[7] In addition, many members of this breed died in the dog fighting pits, contributing to the breed's extinction. The Cordoba was capable of hunting in a small pack of a male and female; otherwise it was likely to turn on its pack-mates. The Dogo Argentino is directly derived from this breed.[8] In the 1920s, breeders developed the Dogo Argentino by crossing the Cordoba Fighting Dog with other breeds such as the Great Dane, Great Pyrenees, Bulldog, Bull Terrier and Dogue de Bordeaux.[9] This breed of dogs originated from Argentina; these dogs were mainly used as war dogs. These dogs were fierce and aggressive, and they were used as cattle dogs. The dogs were used as a form of entertainment for their masters through dog fighting. They were believed to have been developed by crossing Spanish fighting mastiffs such as the Cane Corso, Great Dane, Perro. Pressa de Canario, Dogo Argentino and bulldogs with imported English Bullterriers. DescriptionThe Cordoba Fighting Dog was lean and muscled with a short coat that was known to be white with the occasional small brown markings. They were known to be a cross breed of a Mastiff and a Boxer and a great Dane. They usually had their ears cropped to ensure that it doesn’t get ripped off in a fight and this quality made a perfect hunting dog and for fighting other dogs. They were mostly kept in cages just for safety reasons due to their aggressive behavior. Though the most valued specimens were pure white in color, many were red, fawn and yellow. There was known to be multicolored types of this breeds. These dogs are noted for their inadequate scenting ability and they only excel in fighting. They were believed to have descended from the ancient Molossus dogs. TemperamentThese dogs were bred to be fighting dogs and they were trained to fight to the death and even be aggressive towards even their owner. They would even fight and kill their own mates rather than breed with them. These breeds of dogs never hunted in packs because they would turn against other dogs due to their rebellious instincts. The males would sometimes attack and kill the females during copulation which hindered the reproduction of this breed of dogs. This breed was strong and had immense stamina, but lacked stability. The average height of this breed of dogs was 25 inches and their average weight was 55-90 pounds OR 90-130 pounds. See also
