Route descriptionTraveling north from PA Route 18, PA 158 heads through a rural area of northern Lawrence County that is home to an Amish community and into the borough of New Wilmington, where it passes Westminster College and intersects with PA Route 208.[2] The two routes briefly overlap eastbound; at the intersection with PA 956, the concurrency ends, and PA 158 continues northward. As it leaves the borough, it enters Mercer County and winds northeasterly through rural countryside nearly {{convert|6|mi|km}} before it passes over I-80. Approximately {{convert|3|mi|km}} later, the route enters the borough of Mercer, where it meets the eastern terminus of PA Route 318 just one block before its own northern terminus at the US 62/PA Route 258 concurrency. HistoryIn 1927, what is now PA 158 was originally designated part of PA 18.[3] A year later, the road was signed as PA 158[4] when PA 18 was moved to its current alignment between PA 158 and Greenville.[3] Major intersections{{PAinttop|length_ref=[1]}}{{PAint|county=Lawrence |cspan=3 |location=Wilmington Township |ctdab=Lawrence |mile=0.000 |road={{jct|state=PA|PA|18|city1=New Castle}} |notes=Southern terminus of PA 158 }}{{PAint |location=New Wilmington |lspan=2 |mile=2.786 |type=concur |road={{jct|state=PA|PA|208|dir1=west|name1=Neshannock Avenue|road=New Castle Street|location1=Pulaski}} |notes=Western terminus of PA 208 concurrency }}{{PAint |mile=2.912 |type=concur |road={{jct|state=PA|PA|208|PA|956|dir1=east|dir2=south|city1=Volant|city2=Harlansburg|name2=South Market Street|name1=Neshannock Avenue}} |notes=Eastern terminus of PA 208 concurrency; northern terminus of PA 956 }}{{PAint |county=Mercer |cspan=2 |location=Mercer |lspan=2 |mile=11.757 |road={{jct|state=PA|PA|318|dir1=west|name1=West Butler Street}} |notes=Eastern terminus of PA 318 }}{{PAint |mile=11.864 |road={{jct|state=PA|US|62|PA|258|city1=Hermitage|city2=Sharon}} |notes=Northern terminus of PA 158 }}{{Jctbtm|keys=concur}} PA 158 Alternate Truck{{infobox road small|state=PA |name=PA Route 158 Alternate Truck |shield= |location=Mercer, Pennsylvania|formed=2013}}Pennsylvania Route 158 Alternate Truck is a truck route around a weight-restricted bridge over the Brady Run on which trucks over 28 tons and combination loads over 37 tons are prohibited in Mercer, Pennsylvania.
