It serves the inner eastern Melbourne suburb of Cremorne opening as Church Street on 24 September 1860 being renamed East Richmond on 1 January 1867.[1] FacilitiesEast Richmond station has two platforms, and a total of four tracks run through it. Due to its location at the city end of Melbourne's busiest group of railway lines a large number of services pass through East Richmond although only a limited number stop; largely because of its proximity to Richmond station, a few hundred metres down Swan Street. Services to and from Lilydale and Belgrave do not normally stop at East Richmond. Glen Waverley trains stop in off-peak, but trains to and from Glen Waverley in peak hours do not stop at the station. Most services to and from Alamein, Blackburn and Ringwood stop at the station. HistoryThe line though East Richmond station was opened by the Melbourne and Suburban Railway Company to Hawthorn on 24 September 1860. A level crossing was once located at the southern end of the station, which was removed on 12 March 1965 along with the associated signal box.[2] In the 1960s the line through the station was quadrupled, with the track being lowered by 1.2 metres through the station, and a new Platform 1 platform built. The first extra track was commissioned on 1 August 1966 and the second track on 9 January 1967, along with the new platform.[2] Platforms & servicesEast Richmond has two side platforms. It is serviced by Metro Trains' Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, and Glen Waverley line services.[3][4][5][6] Platform 1:
