He served from 25 October 1969 to his retirement on 5 June 1987.[2] Before parliament, Jacobi was employed in the merchant navy and in trade union office. Jacobi had an interest in Australian Law, and during his term in parliament made a contribution to the Australian Law Reform Commission. In 1987, as knowledge of Jacobi's condition of lymphatic cancer became known, nearly all members of the House of Representatives signed a petition for his appointment of the Order of Australia; it was included in the Queen's Birthday Honours, 1987.[3] Ralph Jacobi died in 2002, aged 73.
