It covers an area of {{convert|125.79|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}} with a total population of 42,297 (1 April 2014). Its mayor is Karsten Søndergaard, a member of the Liberal Party (Venstre) political party. HistoryOn 1 January 2007 Egedal municipality was created as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), consisting of the former municipalities of Ledøje-Smørum, Ølstykke, and Stenløse.
