It is one of the European teams in UCI Continental Tour.[1] It is the oldest team that is still active in professional cycling, being founded in 1979. Since 2016 the team has the commercial designation of, Sporting Clube de Portugal/Tavira,[2] as the result of a sponsorship from Sporting to Tavira Cycling Club (Clube de Ciclismo de Tavira) in an agreement valid until 31 December 2019.
