He retired, and died on 11 May 2007.[2] Following 70 years of service, in 2007 Collins, aged 92, was honoured and presented an award by Transport for London at the Public Carriage Office.[3] Collins drove his first passenger in 1937 and his passengers have included Margaret Thatcher, Joan Collins and Bruce Forsyth. In an interview, Collins said: "Life is all about communication and I have enjoyed sharing my vast experience of life as well as learning a lot with some of my passengers... It really does not seem that nearly 70 years has passed by. I have had the pleasure of meeting people from all walks of life, politicians, celebrities and the great British public".[4] References1. ^{{cite news|last1=Cohen|first1=Justin|title=Fareweel To Cabbie King|url=http://archive.totallyjewish.com/news/fareweel-to-cabbie-king/|accessdate=27 October 2014|publisher=totallyjewish.com|date=25 May 2007}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Collins, Alfred}}{{London-transport-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite web|title=Alfred "Alfie" Collins|url=https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/39498097|website=Findagrave.com|accessdate=27 October 2014}} 3. ^http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6470443.stm BBC News: "Longest serving cabbie honoured" 4. ^http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/4596.aspx Transport For London: "London's longest serving taxi driver steps down" 5 : 1915 births|2007 deaths|British taxi cab drivers|People from Chipping Barnet|Taxicabs of London |
