The cottage is one of Wellington's remaining houses from the 1860s. It resembles a traditional English stone cottage adapted for timber construction.[2] The building, is classified as a "Category I" ("places of special or outstanding historical or cultural heritage significance or value") historic place by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.[3] References1. ^Cattell, J (1986) "Historic Buildings of Wellington" Wellington: Government Printing Office {{NewZealand-struct-stub}}2. ^Black, J., Kelly, M., McCracken H., (2004) "Northern Suburbs Heritage Trail: Around the Kaiwharawhara Basin" Wellington: Wellington City Council 3. ^{{NZHPT|1348|Chew House|2009-12-21}} 4 : Buildings and structures in Wellington City|NZHPT Category I listings in the Wellington Region|Houses in New Zealand|1860s architecture in New Zealand |
