The film stars Lomborg, best known for authoring The Skeptical Environmentalist. It premiered in September in Canada at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and had a theatrical United States release on November 12, 2010. The film was directed by Ondi Timoner.[1][2][3] ContentThe film focuses on Lomborg lecturing and brainstorming ideas to make the environmental movement less propagandistic and more realistic, which includes de-emphasizing efforts to stop global warming. Interviews include many scientists and activists both supporting and disputing Lomborg. It also explicitly challenges Al Gore's Oscar-winning environmental awareness documentary, An Inconvenient Truth (2006), and was frequently presented by the media in that light, as in the Wall Street Journal headline, "Controversial 'Cool It' Documentary Takes on 'An Inconvenient Truth'."[4][5] Critical reception and box officeWhile many non-scientist critics welcomed the upbeat, positive nature of the film,[6][7][8] most scientific critiques noted some scientific inconsistency and glossing over of facts, a summary of which can be found on the Yale Climate Media forum.[9] The film received a media critic collective rating of 51% from Rotten Tomatoes[10] and 61% from Metacritic.[11] The Atlantic review described it as "An urgent, intelligent, and entertaining account of the climate policy debate, with a strong focus on cost-effective solutions."[12] At the box office, Cool It 's US release grossed $62,713.[13] References1. ^[https://movies.nytimes.com/2010/11/12/movies/12cool.html?src=twrhp Global Warming and Common Sense.] New York Times, November 11, 2010 2. ^[https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE69B2MK20101012 "Cool It" movie seeks climate solutions: Lomborg], Reuters 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.empiremovies.com/2010/09/10/tiff-movie-review-cool-it/ |title=TIFF Movie Review: Cool It |website=Empire Movies |author=Liam |date=September 10, 2010 |dead-url=yes |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100913090421/http://www.empiremovies.com/2010/09/10/tiff-movie-review-cool-it/ |archive-date=2010-09-13}} 4. ^{{cite web | url=https://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2010/11/10/controversial-cool-it-documentary-takes-on-an-inconvenient-truth/ | title=Controversial 'Cool It' Documentary Takes on 'An Inconvenient Truth' | publisher=Wall Street Journal | date=10 November 2010 | accessdate=21 November 2014 | author=Kaufman, Anthony}} 5. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/23/movies/23cool.html?_r=0 | title=Filmmaker Seeks to Temper the Message of 'An Inconvenient Truth' | publisher=New York Times | date=22 January 2010 | accessdate=21 November 2014 | author=Cieply, Michael}} 6. ^{{cite web |url=https://movies.nytimes.com/2010/11/12/movies/12cool.html |title=Global Warming and Common Sense |author=Jeannette Catsoulis |date=November 11, 2010 |publisher=New York Times review }} 7. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/cool-film-review-43887 |title=Cool It -- Film Review |author=Justin Lowe |date=November 10, 2010 |publisher=Hollywood Reporter }} 8. ^{{cite web |url=http://articles.latimes.com/2010/nov/12/entertainment/la-et-cool-it-20101112 |title=Movie review: 'Cool It' |author=Betsy Sharkey |date=November 12, 2010 |publisher=Los Angeles Times}} 9. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.yaleclimatemediaforum.org/2011/05/a-critical-review-of-bjorn-lomborgs-cool-it/ |title=A Critical Review of Bjorn Lomborg's Cool It … and of Media 'Complicity' in Climate Contrarianism: Bjorn Yesterday … Bjorn Tomorrow? |author=Michael Svoboda |date=May 12, 2011 |publisher=Yale Climate Connections}} 10. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cool_it/ | title=Cool It (2010) | publisher=Rotten Tomatoes | accessdate=21 November 2014}} 11. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.metacritic.com/movie/cool-it | title=Cool It | publisher=Metacritic | accessdate=21 November 2014}} 12. ^{{cite web | last = Crook | first = Clive | authorlink = Clive Crook | title = Bjorn Lomborg's Movie: Is Quiet the New Loud? | publisher = The Atlantic | date = 2010-10-06 | url = https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2010/10/bjorn-lomborgs-movie-is-quiet-the-new-loud/64186/ }} 13. ^{{cite web | url=http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=coolit.htm | title=Cool It | publisher=Box Office Mojo | accessdate=21 November 2014}} External links
