The gallery was founded by Sir Hugh Lane on Harcourt Street in 1908, and is the first known public gallery of modern art in the world.{{cn|date=June 2015}} There is no admission fee and the gallery is completely wheelchair-accessible. The gallery was closed for reconstruction in 2004, and reopened in May 2006, with a new extension by Gilroy McMahon Architects.[2][3] The museum has a permanent collection and hosts exhibitions, mostly by contemporary Irish artists. It has a dedicated Sean Scully room. Francis Bacon's studio was reconstructed in the gallery in 2001 after being dismantled and moved from London starting in 1998.[4][5] The Hugh Lane is notable for its collection of French art, including works such as The Umbrellas (Les Parapluies) by Auguste Renoir; Portrait of Eva Gonzalès by Édouard Manet, Jour d’Été by Berthe Morisot and View of Louveciennes by Camille Pissarro.{{cn|date=June 2015}} In 1992, the painting In The Omnibus by Honoré Daumier was stolen from the gallery, and recovered in 2014.[6] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.dublincity.ie/sites/default/files/content/RecreationandCulture/ArtsOffice/HughLane/Documents/FinalCodeofGovernance.pdf|title=Code of Governance|publisher=Hugh Lane Gallery Trust|date=January 2014|accessdate=2015-06-09}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.gilroymcmahon.com/cultural/projects/dublin-gallery.htm|title=PROJECTS: Cultural - The Hugh Lane Gallery|publisher=Gilroy McMahon Architects|accessdate=2015-06-09}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.lmp.ie/newbuild/hughlane.html|title=Combining old and new at the Hugh Lane Art Gallery|publisher=Lee McCullough Consulting Engineers|accessdate=2015-06-09}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.francis-bacon.com/blog/francis-bacons-studio-lecture-at-tokyo-momat/|title=‘Francis Bacon’s Studio’ lecture at Tokyo MOMAT|publisher=Estate of Francis Bacon|date=2013-04-03}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://whitehotmagazine.com/articles/studio-hugh-lane-gallery-dublin/337|title=Francis Bacon's studio, Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin|author=Paul Tuthill|publisher=Whitehot Magazine|date=April 2007|accessdate=2015-06-09}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-27394001|title=Stolen painting returned to Hugh Lane Gallery|publisher=BBC News|date=2014-05-13|accessdate=2015-06-09}} External links{{commonscat|Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane}}
