词条 | George Hastings, 8th Earl of Huntingdon |
释义 |
Hastings was educated at Foubert's Academy and Wadham College, Oxford.[2] From 14 March 1702 to 2 March 1703 he was the Colonel of the Huntingdon's Regiment. It was the first of the newly raised regiments, after Queen Anne authorised the raising of 15 new regiments in 1702, to proceed overseas. The regiment was posted to Holland in the Netherlands, during the War of the Austrian Succession. It fought in numerous campaigns across Europe, winning its first battle honour at the Battle of Dettingen in 1743. Regiments were officially numbered in 1751, and the 33rd Regiment of Foot (First West Riding Regiment) became the regiments official title.[3] References1. ^Record for George Hastings, 8th Earl of Huntingdon on thepeerage.com. {{S-start}}{{s-reg|en}}{{succession box | title=Earl of Huntingdon | before=Theophilus Hastings | after=Theophilus Hastings | years=1701–1705}}{{succession box | title=Baron Botreaux | before=Theophilus Hastings | after=Theophilus Hastings | years=1701–1705}}{{S-end}}{{Use dmy dates|date=January 2012}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Huntingdon, George Hastings, 8th Earl Of }}{{England-earl-stub}}2. ^{{cite book|author1=Yun Lee Too|author2=Niall Livingstone|title=Pedagogy and Power: Rhetorics of Classical Learning|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=O3XDcEl5aXIC&pg=PA87|accessdate=8 July 2013|date=19 July 2007|publisher=Cambridge University Press|isbn=978-0-521-03801-0|page=87}} 3. ^'The History of The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding) 1702–1992, page 375 (Succession of Colonels) – JM Brereton and ACS Savoury ({{ISBN|0 9521552 0 6}}) 3 : 1705 deaths|1677 births|Earls of Huntingdon (1529) |
