Its seat is the village of Horodło, which lies approximately {{convert|13|km|mi|0}} north-east of Hrubieszów and {{convert|111|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} east of the regional capital Lublin. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|130.27|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 5,689 (5,494 in 2013). The gmina contains part of the protected area called Strzelce Landscape Park.
