Its seat is the village of Miedzna, which lies approximately {{convert|9|km|mi|0}} north-east of Węgrów and {{convert|80|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} east of Warsaw. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|115.78|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 4,102 (4,033 in 2013).
