Prior to being mayor in 1998–2010, she served nine years as a city councillor. She is currently a councillor on the Greater Wellington Regional Council. Porirua City CouncilBrash was first elected as a Northern Ward councillor in 1983 and held that role until 1989. She was elected in 1995 for another three-year term.[1] Brash last contested the mayoralty in October 2007 against four other candidates. She received 6101 votes, more than twice as many as the next candidate.[2] She retired from the mayoralty at the 2010 election.[3] She endorsed the mayoral campaign of councillor Nick Leggett, who was elected in October 2010 as her successor.[4] She campaigned for the construction of the Transmission Gully Motorway.[5] Brash was the Porirua representative on the Wellington Regional Transport Committee when it was formed in 2008.[6] Greater Wellington Regional CouncilIn October 2010, she was elected to the Greater Wellington Regional Council for the Porirua-Tawa constituency.[7] Former Porirua Mayor John Burke, who in 2007 came second in the constituency, which elects two councillors,[8] came third in 2010. He was thus displaced by Brash and failed to be re-elected.[9] Community involvementAt the close of her mayoralty, she successfully stood for election to the Porirua Community Trust.[7] She is a supporter of the NZ Flag.com Trust, preferring a silver fern as the symbol on the New Zealand flag over the current design, which is too close to the Australian flag for her.[10] HonoursIn the 2011 New Year Honours, Brash was appointed a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for services to local body affairs.[11] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Porirua farewells Jenny Brash |url=http://www.pcc.govt.nz/Theme/ModuleLayout/GetImage.aspx?imageid=2a954acd-09bf-4b4f-93b3-b3043f4ec198&downloadnow=true |publisher=Porirua City Council |accessdate=27 October 2010 |page=1|format=PDF |date=5 October 2010 }} {{s-start}}{{s-off}}{{s-bef | before=John Burke}}{{s-ttl | title=Mayor of Porirua|years=1998–2010}}{{s-aft | after=Nick Leggett}}{{end}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Brash, Jenny}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Porirua City Mayor |url=http://www.elections2010.co.nz/2007/elections/porirua-city-mayor |publisher=Elections NZ |accessdate=27 October 2010 }} 3. ^{{cite news|last=Carroll |first=Joanne |title=Wellington mayor clings to narrow lead |url=http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10679471 |accessdate=27 October 2010|newspaper=The New Zealand Herald|date=10 October 2010 |author2=Jonathan Milne }} 4. ^{{cite news|title=New mayor for Porirua|url=http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/local-elections-2010/59104/new-mayor-for-porirua |accessdate=29 October 2010|newspaper=Radio NZ |date=10 October 2010 }} 5. ^{{cite news|last=Kortum |first=Evelien |title=Jenny Brash – after 12 years, where next? |url=http://wellington.scoop.co.nz/?p=27824 |accessdate=27 October 2010 |newspaper=Scoop |date=25 September 2010 |author2=Dani McDonald }} 6. ^{{cite web|title=Establishment of the Regional Transport Committee |url=http://www.gw.govt.nz/assets/council-reports/Report_PDFs/2008_673_1_Report.pdf |publisher=GWRC|accessdate=29 October 2010 }} 7. ^1 {{cite web|title=Jenny Brash |url=http://www.elections2010.co.nz/2010/candidates/jenny-brash |publisher=Elections NZ |accessdate=27 October 2010 }} 8. ^{{cite web|title=Greater Wellington Regional Council – Porirua-Tawa Constituency|url=http://www.elections2010.co.nz/2007/elections/greater-wellington-regional-council-porirua-tawa-constituency |publisher=Elections NZ |accessdate=30 October 2010 }} 9. ^{{cite web|title=Greater Wellington Regional Council – Porirua-Tawa Constituency |url= http://www.elections2010.co.nz/2010/elections/greater-wellington-regional-council-porirua-tawa-constituency |publisher=Elections NZ |accessdate=30 October 2010 }} 10. ^{{cite web|title=Jenny Brash, Mayor of Porirua City |url=http://nzflag.co.nz/endorsements.cfm?i=77 |publisher=NZ Flag |accessdate=30 October 2010 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20100519003343/http://www.nzflag.co.nz/endorsements.cfm?i=77 |archivedate=19 May 2010 |df= }} 11. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.dpmc.govt.nz/publications/new-year-honours-list-2011 | title=New Year honours list 2011 |date=31 December 2010| publisher=Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet | accessdate=5 January 2018}} 7 : 1946 births|Companions of the Queen's Service Order|Living people|Mayors of Porirua|Wellington Regional Councillors|Women mayors of places in New Zealand|People from Christchurch |
