Justin Carney (born {{birth date|1988|6|16|df=yes}}), also known by the nickname of "The Tank on the Flank", is an Australian rugby league footballer who last played for the Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League. He plays on the {{rlp|wg}} or as a {{rlp|ce}}.

He has previously played for the Salford Red Devils, the Castleford Tigers, the Canberra Raiders and the Sydney Roosters. He has represented the New South Wales Schoolboys.[5]

He has no relation to team-mate Todd Carney.

Career

Carney scored two tries on début for the Canberra Raiders in a 34–16 win over the Brisbane Broncos.[6]

In round 17 of the 2009 NRL season against the Gold Coast Titans he suffered a fracture to both his tibia and fibula during a tackle.[7] He could not play for the rest of the year and missed the entirety of the 2010 season.

Carney was nominated for the 2009 Ken Stephen Medal, acknowledging his strong community work.[8]

He signed a 2-year deal with the Sydney Roosters.[9] His first game for the Roosters was against the Wests Tigers on 3 April. He spent two seasons at the club, but played in just 17 games and failed to score a try in 2012.

Carney joined the Castleford Tigers on a two-year contract from 2013. Coach Ian Millward said, "No one will run the ball harder or faster in the Super League in 2013."[10]

In 2014, Carney signed a new five-year deal with the Tigers.[11][12] November 2015, signed for Salford Red devils on a one-year loan deal. This deal was converted to a permanent move in April 2016.[13]

In May 2017 after being released by the Salford Red Devil's for an incident with the Toronto Wolfpacks Ryan Bailey, he signed a 2-year deal with championship side the Hull Kingston Rovers to aid in their push for promotion back to super league. However, he won't be able to feature in the first five weeks since signing as he is currently 3-games into an 8-game ban.
