Critical reception

Rolling Stone described "Keep Your Head to the Sky" as a song with "a luscious, luminous quality".^[3] Allmusic also called the song "hauntingly pretty".^[4]

"Keep Your Head to the Sky" was sampled by Jay Z on his 1994 track "Reach the Top" and by Guru featuring Amel Larrieux on the track "Guidance" from his 2000 album Streetsoul.
