A former Garda Síochána Superintendent, Curley is a native of Glinsk in North Galway, being recruited in 1973. He was stationed at Stepaside in Dublin. Two and a half years later, he was transferred to Galway, most of the rest of his career, from Tynagh and Clifden to a spell in Rosmuc. In 1996, he was made Superintendent in Listowel County Kerry. From here, he moved to Clifden before taking up the Superintendent's position in Salthill, where he stayed until his retirement in December 2006. Already a well recognized former GAA referee across the country, he was named the new chairman of the National Referee's Association. As well as his position with the National Referee's Association, Mick is also working as a Sports Co-ordinator with the County Sports Partnership, in efforts to promote sport in the region and increase participation.
