It is never found in association with a conch, and its affinity therefore remains undetermined.[1] Nevertheless, its heavy musculature does seem to indicate that it functioned as an operculum.[2] Some specimens bear evidence of healed injuries.[3] It's also been compared to the Kirengellids, which are probably brachiopods.[4] OccurrenceThe genus is unique to Lower Cambrian strata and has been found throughout the northern hemisphere.[5] References1. ^{{Cite journal | title = Enigmatic shells, possibly halkieriid, from the Middle Cambrian Burgess Shale, British Columbia | year = 1995 | first = S. | last = Conway Morris | authorlink = Simon Conway Morris | journal = Neues Jahrbuch für Geologie und Paläontologie, Abhandlungen | pages = 319–331 | volume = 195 | issue = 1}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q6886671}}{{cambrian-animal-stub}}2. ^{{cite journal|doi=10.1093/zoolinnean/zlw011|title=Keeping a lid on it: Muscle scars and the mystery of the Mobergellidae|journal=Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society|volume=180|issue=4|pages=717|year=2017|last1=Topper|first1=Timothy P|last2=Skovsted|first2=Christian B}} 3. ^1 2 {{Cite journal| last1 = Bengtson | first1 = S.| title = The problematic genus Mobergella from the Lower Cambrian of the Baltic area| journal = Lethaia| volume = 1| issue = 4| pages = 325–351| year = 1968| doi = 10.1111/j.1502-3931.1968.tb01625.x}} 4. ^Dzik, J. 2010: Brachiopod identity of the alleged monoplacophoran ancestors of cephalopods.
