Political careerFort Saskatchewan Town CouncilAbdurahman was elected to Fort Saskatchewan town council in 1977. She was elected Mayor of Fort Saskatchewan in 1980 and 1983, and was the first Mayor of the City of Fort Saskatchewan following its incorporation as a city in 1985. Abdurahman resigned midway through her second term as mayor in order to contest the 1986 Alberta general election. Provincial PoliticsAbdurahman first ran for the Alberta Legislature in the 1986 general election.
