MV Cenred was one of Wightlink's 'C' class vehicle and passenger ferries on their route from Lymington to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. HistoryCenred was built in 1973 for Sealink's Lymington to Yarmouth route by Robb Caledon Shipbuilders Ltd in Dundee, Scotland. The ship was named after Cenred of Wessex. She cost a total of £1.8 million to build and was one of three sister ships, the others being {{MV|Caedmon}} and {{MV|Cenwulf}}.[4] They all passed to Wightlink after the privatisation of Sealink in 1984. Cenred remained on the route for her whole life. Laid up at Marchwood in 2009, , Cenred was sold for scrapping and moved to Harlingen, Netherlands in March 2010,[5] en route to Esbjerg in Denmark, in the hope of finding a new owner.[6] Along with her sister ships, Cenred was broken up at Esbjerg in May 2010.[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjzmlAoBQvw&playnext=1&videos=tRDz10wfk1Y] LayoutThe car deck had ramps fore and aft, allowing full ro-ro operation. Passenger accommodation was above the car deck, with the bridge above that. ServiceCenred operated the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry service from 1973 to 2008. Along with the two other 'C' class ships owned by Wightlink she was withdrawn from service on introduction of the three new Wight-class ferries.[7] Cenred was brought back from retirement on 12 March 2009 when {{MV|Wight Light}} required repairs to her hydraulic ramp.[8]Footnotes1. ^1 2 3 {{csr|register=MSI|id=7324091|accessdate=12 April 2009}} 2. ^{{cite web| url=http://www.vesseltracker.com/en/Ships/Cenred-I277057.html| title=Cenred | publisher=Vessel Tracker| accessdate=12 April 2009}} 3. ^{{cite web| url=http://e-ships.net/index/C6.shtml| title=Ship Index: C| publisher=World Shipping Register| accessdate=12 April 2009}} 4. ^{{cite web| url=http://www.wightlink.co.uk/about-us/our-fleet-today/cenred.aspx| title=Our fleet today - Cenred| publisher=Wightlink| accessdate=16 January 2009|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080923135927/http://www.wightlink.co.uk/about-us/our-fleet-today/cenred.aspx|archivedate=2008-09-23}} 5. ^{{cite web| url=http://www.shipais.com/shiptrail.php?mmsi=234509000&date=20100324| title=AIS History of Cenred| publisher=ShipAIS| date= 24 March 2010|accessdate=2 April 2010}} 6. ^{{cite web| url=http://www.lymingtonriver.co.uk/ferries%20for%20sale.phtml.htm| title=For Sale: 3 x river ferries still operational| publisher=Apollo Duck Boats Network| accessdate=19 May 2010}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/new-ferry-makes-third-ship-for-route-21394.aspx| title=New ferry makes third ship for route| author=Richard Wright| publisher=Isle of Wight County Press| date=17 July 2008| accessdate=29 March 2009}} 8. ^{{cite news| title=Swan song for ferry after breakdown| publisher=Isle of Wight County Press| date=13 March 2009| url=http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/swan-song-for-ferry-after-breakdown-25112.aspx| accessdate=29 March 2009}} External links{{Commons category|Cenred (ship, 1973)|MV Cenred}}
