Nuctech (威视股份) is a company created in 1997 as an offshoot of Tsinghua University.[1] The company was headed by Hu Haifeng, son of then General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Hu Jintao until 2008.[2] The current chairman of Nuctech is Rong Yonglin.

Overview

Nuctech Company Limited manufactures security inspection products. It offers cargo and vehicle inspection, baggage and parcel inspection, personnel screening, explosives and narcotics detection, liquid inspection, radioactive substances monitoring, applied irradiation, and integrated solutions. The company also provides online consulting and after-sales services. It serves customs and border, aviation, rail transportation, law enforcement, event security, critical infrastructure, environment protection, and prison markets internationally. [3]

History

Nuctech Company Limited was founded in 1997 and is based in Beijing, the company was formerly known as Nuclear Technology Company Ltd. and changed its name to Nuctech Company Limited in March 2002.

Nuctech Company Limited originating out of Tsinghua University, Beijing, is a security inspection product manufacturer and security solutions supplier specializing in own-brand radiation imaging equipment. Nuctech owns all of the intellectual property rights (IPR) to its core technologies, with an ethos of being self-reliant on its own innovations, integrating those innovations and further promoting and developing innovation. NUCTECH’s products have been sold to more than 130 countries and regions in five continents, covering the fields of civil aviation, Customs, urban subways, railways, highways, ports and key buildings and facilities, gaining widespread recognition and occupying an important position in the global market.

2019 Nuctech

In Europe 2019

On Jan 15, 2019 the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) announced that Kylin Ti, a CT baggage screening device made by NUCTECH, had passed the Explosive Detection System for Cabin Baggage (EDSCB) C3 standard test. The ECAC technical standards have a great reputation and credibility and serve as the criteria in the industry. [5]

2018 Nuctech

In Buenos Aires 2018

On October 31, 2018 NUCTECH provided the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires with nearly 300 sets of security inspection equipment, including baggage inspection systems, handheld detectors and other devices. To ensure the normal functioning of the security inspection equipment at various venues during the event, NUCTECH conducted 20 hours of operation training in three phases for on-site operators and the security staff, and NUCTECH's technicians worked round the clock on site providing technical support. With those technicians' efforts, the equipment at all venues functioned well, as expected. [6]

In United States 2018

On October 17, 2018 NUCTECH Provided The full body Scanners, similar to what passengers go through at airport security, are located in the main booking area and at the entrance for inmates who have permission to leave the jail for work, job training or medical appointments. [7]

In Indonesia 2018

On September 11, 2018 NUCTECH was the security equipment supplier at the 18th Asian Games, which was kicked off on August 18, 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. This year's event is the second time that Indonesia has hosted the Asian Games in 56 years. Over 15,000 athletes from 45 countries participated in the Games. The Asian Games closed on September 2 in Jakarta. China won 289 medals, including 132 gold, 92 silver and 65 bronze, leading the medal count for the tenth time in a row in Asian Games history. [8]

In Turkey 2017

On December 29, 2017 The new airport terminal will use Nuctech-made equipment and system to inspect carry-ons and checked baggage, which, according to the Chinese company, will have a capacity to handle 200 million passengers annually when all phases of the construction are completed. Yusuf Akcayoglu, CEO of Istanbul Grand Airport Construction, expressed his pleasure to have Nuctech on board, as his team is aiming at making the new airport the world's most attractive one in terms of not only geography but also technology. In China 2017

On September 08, 2017 Nuctech commenced the security mission for the BRICS Summit, after the successful security mission at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Nuctech provided both solutions and equipment to the summit including x-ray Dual-View Inspection Systems, Mobile Container/Vehicle Inspection Systems, Handheld Explosives Trace Detectors, Raman Liquid Inspection Systems, Identity Verification Systems, Vehicle Radiation Portal Monitors, Pedestrian Radiation Portal Monitors, and so on. Nuctech had a professional maintenance team stand by in case of any emergency. [10]

In Poland 2017

On September 08, 2017 Nuctech Warsaw Company Limited SP.Z O. O. to be Awarded the Most Dynamic and Innovative Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of Poland. Ever since Nuctech Warsaw was founded, their security products have been sold to over 30 European countries including Sweden, Britain, Czech, German and etc.

The manufacture capability of Nuctech Warsaw has constantly been increased, and the product portfolio has continuously been enriched. Two months ago, Nuctech Warsaw's first CT cargo/baggage inspection system completed its final check in the base, indicating that it has possessed the capability of localized manufacture of CT systems.[11]

2016 Nuctech

In Brazil 2016

On July 29, 2016 Over 250 Nuctech security scanners have been installed for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The scanners will be responsible for 90 percent of security checks at the Rio Games and acceptance testing by Brazil Judiciary.[12]

In Côte d’Ivoire 2015

On December 01, 2015 Côte d'Ivoire has acquired two mobile X-ray scanners to boost the efficiency of its customs services. A first for the country, which intends to fight against fraud (and illegal products) and facilitate customs operations in order to optimize the mobilization of its internal resources.[13]

2009 Nuctech

In China 2009

On July 21, 2009 Nuctech representative Yang Fan (杨帆) and two Namibians, Teckla Lameck and Jerobeam Mokaxwa, were arrested after Namibia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) discovered that a US$12.8 million down payment on 13 scanners had been diverted to a firm called Teko Trading owned by the two Namibians.[2] Namibia prosecutors accuse them of joining in a bribery scheme that secured a $55.3 million contract in May 2008 to install Nuctech scanners at customs inspection points across Namibia.[2] Other sources report the contract to be worth $69 million.[14]

Netizens in China were blocked from accessing stories about the son of Hu Jintao in the wake of the scandal. Leading Chinese web portals, Sina and NetEase, could not be opened for several hours after they posted reports about the company linked to Hu Haifeng.[14] The report related to Hu Haifeng had been deleted from both web sites when their technology sections came back online.[15] An industry insider who declined to give his name said that both Sina and Netease were likely to face official sanctions.[15] Neither company confirmed that the sites had been blocked by the authorities or that their blockage was linked to any content. A customer service executive at Sina.com said the site had experienced technical problems.[15]

In Namibia

General Martin Shalli was a veteran fighter for Namibian independence, who joined SWAPO in 1974, having undergone training in the former Soviet Union.[14] After the corruption case, he was suspended by Namibian president Hifikepunye Pohamba for allegedly having millions of Namibian dollars transferred to him through Nuctech.[16] No details were given on the probe, but the Namibian daily reported possible links between Shalli and a Chinese company that supplies the Namibia Defence Force.[16]

The company has risen to become one of the world's top providers of security scanning equipment, supplying about 50 nations. In late 2006 the company won a contract to install advanced scanners at all 147 of China's airports to detect potentially dangerous liquids.[1] In December 2006 the contract to supply China's airports with security scanners caused concern following the August 2006 Britain-originated plot to blow up aircraft in mid-air.
