"Matters of Honor" is the first episode of the third season of the science fiction television series Babylon 5.

Synopsis

A human male escapes from a planet through a Centauri blockage and travels to Babylon 5. He secretly meets with Delenn and Lennier, revealing himself to be Marcus, one of the Rangers. They arrange a meeting with the station command staff, where Marcus introduces himself and explains that one of the Rangers' training bases on Zagros 7 has been blockaded by Centauri; there is little else of value on the planet, which suggests the Centauri are targeting the Rangers. Marcus urges for Sheridan's help. At the same time, Sheridan is handling David Endawi, a member of EarthForce Special Intelligence, who is looking to speak with all the ambassadors on the station to help identify the ship seen in the footage Keller had taken before his death so that they can provide an answer to Earth's population. Sheridan has Garibaldi handle Mr. Endawi while he and Ivanova join Marcus, Delenn, and Lennier to help the Rangers camp.

Meanwhile, Mr. Morden has returned to the station and meets with Ambassador Mollari. Mollari has come to distrust Morden's associates, and wants no more to do with them. Morden agrees, but only after completing one last piece of business, showing Mollari what parts of the galaxy they may take and which parts that his associates want. He also explains that he talked to Lord Refa to help seize Zagros 7, given that Mollari wants nothing more to do with him. Elsewhere, after Mr. Endawi has spoken to all of the ambassadors, Garibaldi suggests he also meet with G'Kar in an unofficial manner. G'Kar is only too happy to share that the ship in the footage matches that of their religious texts, speaking of visitors to their planet over a thousand years ago.

Marcus directs Sheridan to a sector of space where a new ship awaits, the White Star, constructed from both Minbari and Vorlon technology, including the ability to jump to hyperspace without a jump gate. The White Star is placed in Sheridan's command, and he directs them to Zagros 7. There they start clearing away Centauri satellites that form the blockade and are surprised by the lack of Centauri response. They suddenly detect a new ship appearing and recognize it as a Shadow vessel. After assuring the Rangers have enough space in the blockage to escape, Sheridan has the White Star follow them through the jump gate into hyperspace. Delenn asks why he did not want to jump with the ship's engines, and Sheridan points out that having jump technology on a ship this size would be a surprise to use to their advantage. With the Shadow vessel pursuing them through hyperspace, Sheridan suggests exiting hyperspace via a jump point and immediately creating their own jump point in order to cause an energy feedback to destroy the gate and any vessel nearby. Sheridan further posits using the jump gate near the planet Markab, given that after the species' extinctions others have been using it to grave rob the planet. Sheridan's tactic works as the Shadow ship is destroyed in the energy surge while the White Star gets safely away.

By the time Sheridan and the others return to Babylon 5 Mr. Endawi has completed his study and promised Sheridan a copy. On Earth, he presents his results to one of the Senators, mostly based on his discussion with G'Kar. The Senator thanks him and after he leaves she is joined by Morden and a Psi-Corps representative. Morden feels the result is vague enough that they can pass it off as a myth, but the Psi-Corps officer suggests they can use it to their advantage to justify putting more strength into Earth's defenses--knowing that people are scared--to which the Senator agrees.

On Babylon 5 Sheridan calls Ivanova, Garibaldi, Franklin, Delenn and Marcus together to form a war council, to share everything they know about the Shadows, and to better prepare for the upcoming war.
