It is a three-story brick structure constructed in 1885 in the Queen Anne style. It has retail storefronts on the first floor and apartments and storage on the second and third. A rock-faced foundation pierced with basement windows is exposed on the south side.[2] The Tarbell Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.[1] It was built by Gage E. Tarbell (1856-1936), who rose from poor boy to become, over time, a jeweler, lawyer, mining promoter and insurance broker. He served as vice president of the Equitable Assurance Company.[3] Tarbell again commissioned fine architecture at Garden City, a model suburb he later helped develop on Long Island.[4] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|2009a}} {{National Register of Historic Places in New York}}{{CortlandCountyNY-NRHP-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.oprhp.state.ny.us/hpimaging/hp_view.asp?GroupView=1571|title=National Register of Historic Places Registration: Tarbell Building|date=July 2000|accessdate=2009-11-10 |author=Mark Peckham|publisher=New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation}} See also: {{cite web|url=http://www.oprhp.state.ny.us/hpimaging/hp_view.asp?GroupView=1573|title=Accompanying two photos}} 3. ^"Gage E.
