It is part of Umeå University. Unlike the other Architectural Schools in Sweden, UMA has a spoken policy of sustainable development and integrated design, and aims to grow into "an international laboratory of experimental architectural development."[1] The Danish architect Peter Kjaer is appointed rector for the school. The five-year architectural programme started in fall 2009 at provisionary premises in central Umeå, but could before fall 2010 move to a new building by Danish architect firm Henning Larsen Architects,[2] close to the Umeå Institute of Design and the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts at the Umeå Arts Campus.[3] Master's degree programs will start in fall 2010.
