释义 |
A by-election was held for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly seat of Bass Hill on 2 August 1986. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of sitting Labor MP Neville Wran. It was won by Liberal candidate Michael Owen. The Bass Hill by-election was held the same day as the Rockdale by-election. BackgroundNeville Wran resigned as Premier of New South Wales after more than 10 years in office. At the time, Wran held the record for the longest uninterrupted stint as NSW Premier. In addition to resigning as Premier, Wran also resigned his seat in the Legislative Assembly, necessitating a by-election to fill the vacancy. ResultsBass Hill was lost by the Labor Party for the only time in the history of the district. In a very close result, Liberal Party candidate Michael Owen won the contest by 103 votes after the distribution of preferences.[1] {{Election box begin|title=Bass Hill state by-election, 1986 }}{{Election box candidate AU party |candidate = Bill Lovelee |party = Labor NSW |votes = 10,899 |percentage = 41.96 |change = −22.17 }}{{Election box candidate AU party |candidate = Michael Owen |party = Liberal NSW |votes = 8,646 |percentage = 33.28 |change = +3.92 }}{{Election box candidate AU party |candidate = Jill Barber |party = Independent |votes = 3,209 |percentage = 12.35 |change = +12.35 }}{{Election box candidate AU party |candidate = Peter Carver |party = Australian Democrats |votes = 1,391 |percentage = 5.35 |change = +5.35 }}{{Election box candidate AU party |candidate = Elaine Nile |party = Call to Australia |votes = 1,387 |percentage = 5.34 |change = +5.34 }}{{Election box candidate AU party |candidate = Richard Mezinec |party = Independent |votes = 329 |percentage = 1.27 |change = +1.27 }}{{Election box candidate AU party |candidate = John Vartanian |party = Pan Ethnic Republican |votes = 115 |percentage = 0.44 |change = +0.44 }}{{Election box formal |votes = 25,976 |percentage = 96.23 |change = +0.15 }}{{Election box informal |votes = 1,019 |percentage = 3.77 |change = −0.15 }}{{Election box turnout |votes = 26,995 |percentage = 80.76 |change = −13.91 }}{{Election box 2pp}}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Liberal NSW |candidate = Michael Owen |votes = 12,260 |percentage = 50.21 |change = +17.5{{ref|estimate|*}} }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Labor NSW |candidate = Bill Lovelee |votes = 12,157 |percentage = 49.79 |change = −17.5{{ref|estimate|*}} }}{{Election box gain AU party |winner = Liberal NSW |loser = Labor NSW |swing = +17.5{{ref|estimate|*}} }}{{Election box end}}{{Note|estimate}} Since the two-party preferred count was not conducted for Bass Hill in 1984,[2] the two party preferred swing at the by-election cannot be calculated precisely.
