During her childhood, she spent a lot of time at her grandparents’ house in Jaipur, admiring the colourful markets, local clothing, the cultural architecture and people of Rajasthan, which ignited a creative spark in her. Dongre achieved her degree in fashion design at the Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic of SNDT College[3] and soon began supplying Indian wear to boutiques. All of Dongre’s portfolio of brands furnish under this name.[4] House of Anita Dongre currently shelters AND (western wear), Global Desi (boho-chic brand inspired by the folk tales of India), and her signature label ANITA DONGRE. She has recently introduced Anita Dongre Grassroot to her fashion house, which is a sustainable and eco-conscious luxury pret label paying tribute to the handcrafted traditions of India. She is also the founder of Pink City, a handcrafted jadau fine jewellery brand .[5] Dongre’s brother and sister handle the operations of the business, while she focuses on the design front. She features as the Chief Creative Officer of the company and designs clothes for both Bollywood celebrities and royalties. At present, AND is retailed through 515 points of sale, which include 126 exclusive stores and 415 established multi-brand lifestyle formats. Global Desi has 143 exclusive stores and displays its presence in 405 multi-brand lifestyle stores. In August 2015, Dongre introduced another brand Anita Dongre Grassroot to her fashion house. Her designs showcase Indian aesthetics in a contemporary language. She was the first Indian designer to introduce standard sizing in the country for Indian women (UK size 8 to UK size 18). She is committed to revive Indian crafts and textiles. She is also a firm supporter for women empowerment in India. She believes in supporting villages by empowering them to earn a livelihood. One such village adopted by her is Charoti, which is 150 km from Mumbai in Maharashtra.
