Clarence Eugene McClendon is a worldwide, respected voice to this generation. Not merely a television personality with a media imprint that extends from religious television to worldwide mainstream outlets, Bishop McClendon heralds a timely message of hope, reconciliation, and restoration that’s delivered with an engaging, passionate quality that has impacted millions. Today, he’s called upon by diplomats, heads of state, celebrities, and private citizens for his wise counsel and poignant perspective, but Bishop McClendon’s ministry spans decades.

Early life

McClendon was born in Decatur, Illinois, on June 7, 1965 to Levi and Miriam McClendon. He began preaching at 15 and became a pastor at 19. But it was in 1991 that the members of West Adams Foursquare Church welcomed then-Evangelist Clarence McClendon to the pastorate of their church. He’d begun to hone his skill and his passion for preaching and pastoring, and this pastoral appointment was a breakthrough moment.

Located in South Los Angeles on the corner of West Adams Boulevard and La Brea Avenue at the time, only a few dozen people gathered in the small wooden building on Sunday mornings. But it didn’t take long for word to spread that there was a young pastor whose prophetic message and vision were ablaze in LA’s inner city. As Pastor McClendon faithfully served the scant gathering of congregants there, he preached as if thousands were in attendance. And soon, thousands were present - and tuning in via television from around the world.

By 1993, West Adams Foursquare Church took a new name: Church of the Harvest. The congregation was multiplying and a new worship facility was built to accommodate over 8,000 weekly attendees. Today, Bishop McClendon is the Prophet and Teacher of The Place of Grace, a growing multi-ethnic congregation located in Los Angeles.

Career and personal life

In 1997, Harvest Fire Media hit television airwaves for the first time and the international prophetic and apostolic ministry that had been cultivated for years from Illinois to California was now in millions of homes in hundreds of nations weekly. Harvest Fire Media continues to offer weekly and monthly international television broadcasts: “A Miracle for You” and “Your Time For Miracles,” in which Bishop McClendon shares the word of God and the message of Jesus Christ to more than 350 million homes throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. The Full Harvest Network of Churches, Ministries and Entrepreneurs offers spiritual covering and accountability through the word of God and covenant ministry connections. His PrayerForce network and other ministry initiatives are designed to empower and strengthen the faith of those who participate in them. And his itinerant ministry is as strong as ever as he ministers at crusades and events in the United States and overseas.

At the turn of the century Bishop Clarence McClendon was known as one of the most dynamic preachers in the Foursquare Gospel denomination. But he claimed the organization was racially biased and pulled his 10,000-member Church of the Harvest International out of the denomination. It was around the same time in 2000 that Bishop McClendon divorced his wife of 16 years and married for a second time just one week after the divorce was declared final. According to Charisma Now, a Christian publication, his ex-wife Tammera said Bishop McClendon told her that God revealed to him who he was supposed to marry. She said she then asked him: “How could God show you another woman when you already have a wife?”[1]

His voice can be heard in groundbreaking spoken messages and books like "The Healing Project," "The X Blessing," and "And When You Pray." And in the uplifting music produced by his ministry: "Give Glory To God" and Shout Hallelujah featuring the Harvest Fire Mega Mass Choir, which was released on April 18, 2000 by Integrity Music.[2][3] Shout Hallelujah placed at No. 9 on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart for 24 weeks.[2][4] He is the conductor of the Harvest Fire Mega Mass Choir.[5]

McClendon has also served as a member of the Do Something Foundation, and as a regent for California Faith-Based Initiatives. McClendon has appeared on the "CBS Evening News", ABC's "Nightline", Black Entertainment Television, and "G's to Gents" on MTV.
