He was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.[2] He won the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the men's 60 kg category. In 2015, he was named head coach of the UNC wrestling program after one year as an assistant. High schoolColeman attended Waynesburg Central High School in Pennsylvania where he had a record of 156-12 and was a four-time WPIAL champion and three-time PIAA champion.[3] CollegeAs an Oklahoma State wrestler Coleman was a 2008 NCAA Champion and four-time All-American.[4] InternationalColeman won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, but unlike many of his fellow competitors this did not automatically earn him an Olympic bid. Since the U.S. had not yet qualified in the 60 kg freestyle and since the qualification tournaments were near in time to the trials, two wrestlers were selected to skip the trials and try to qualify the U.S. at that weight.[5] After the U.S. qualified for that weight, a special best-of-three Championship Series at Times Square was arranged allowing the trials winner to compete against the two wrestlers at the qualification tournaments for the Olympic spot.[6] Coleman defeated Reece Humphrey in the semi final.[7] Coleman then defeated Shawn Bunch 2 to 1 the special best-of-three Championship Series final for the 60 kg spot.[8] At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Scott beat Lee Seung-Chul and Malkhaz Zarkua before losing to eventual champion Toghrul Asgarov.[9] In the repechage, Scott won the bronze medal by beating Kenichi Yumoto.[9] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.london2012.com/athlete/scott-coleman-1135029 |title=Coleman Scott |publisher=London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games |dead-url=yes |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130404052239/http://www.london2012.com/athlete/scott-coleman-1135029 |archive-date=April 4, 2013 |df=mdy }} {{Footer USA Wrestling 2012 Summer Olympics}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Scott, Coleman}}2. ^{{cite Sports-Reference |accessdate=2016-08-24}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/sports/high-school-athlete-of-the-week/danielle-gratton-bethel-park-coleman-scott-waynesburg-530231/ |title=Danielle Gratton, Bethel Park / Coleman Scott, Waynesburg – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette |publisher=Post-gazette.com |date=2012-03-19 |accessdate=2012-07-05}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.okstate.com/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/060712aaa.html |title=Coleman Scott Clinches Spot on U.S. Olympic Team – Oklahoma State Official Athletic Site |publisher=Okstate.com |date= |accessdate=2012-07-05}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.thepapowerrankings.com/2012/04/jake-herbert-and-coleman-scott-win-olympic-trials/ |title=Jake Herbert and Coleman Scott Win Olympic Trials |publisher=Thepapowerrankings.com |date=2012-04-23 |accessdate=2012-07-05}} 6. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-blogs/wrestling/interview-with-london-hopeful-coleman-scott.html?cid=rss |title=Interview with London hopeful Coleman Scott – Wrestling News |publisher=NBC Olympics |date= |accessdate=2016-10-21 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120821073342/http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-blogs/wrestling/interview-with-london-hopeful-coleman-scott.html |archivedate=2012-08-21}} 7. ^{{cite web |last=Abbott |first=Gary |url=http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=25178 |title=Coleman Scott tops Reece Humphrey in first wrestle-off at 60 kg | TheMat.com – USA Wrestling |publisher=TheMat.com |date= |accessdate=2012-07-05}} 8. ^{{cite web |last=Abbott |first=Gary |url=http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=25179 |title=FLASH: Scott beat Bunch in deciding third match to earn 60 kg spot on Olympic Team in Times Square | TheMat.com – USA Wrestling |publisher=TheMat.com |date= |accessdate=2012-07-05}} 9. ^1 {{Cite web |title=Freestyle 60 kg results – Wrestling – London 2012 Olympics |url=http://www.olympic.org/olympic-results/london-2012/wrestling/freestyle-60-kg-m |website=www.olympic.org |access-date=2016-02-20}} 8 : 1986 births|Living people|Olympic bronze medalists for the United States in wrestling|Wrestlers at the 2012 Summer Olympics|Olympic wrestlers of the United States|Medalists at the 2012 Summer Olympics|Oklahoma State Cowboys wrestlers|American male sport wrestlers |
