Yuvabalan Manimaran (born in 1989) is a graphic & web designer based in Malaysian designer. He is currently works in real estate management and a freelance graphic and web designer. Besides, being a designer, he is also an authorized Facebook Developer. Yuvabalan is also a certified risk manager and his certificate is from Denmark. He also holds a military certificate and Identical Pass. Yuvabalan is also a former badminton state player and represented his state, Selangor, Malaysia in the year 2006. However, due to the lack of financial support for per club entry fees for national young badminton team, Yuvabalan was unable to continue his passion for sports. He is also the runner-up in rekacipta, model designing, in aeroplanes between states together with two physic students. He represented both his school and state. He also excelled academically where by he is a Top 5 Dean listed student during college. He reached 3.90 GPA. Additionally, he won awards for best outstanding achievement and special best and sport culture certificate. Early lifeYuvabalan initially lived in a local rubber estate, now known as Setia Alam, Meru Klang. He moved to Kapar, a middle-class housing area where his father worked as a lorry driver while his mother, a housewife. Due to the lack of financial support, his mother took up a job as a street hawker, selling cendol, a type of Malaysian dessert. Yuvabalan did his primary school study in SJK (T) Methodist Kapar (1996 – 2001). He furthered his study to SMK Tengku Idris Shah Kapar (2002 – 2006) and did his diploma in Intellect International College (PIIC) from 2007 to 2010 in Risk Management. Since Yuvabalan is from a moderate family, he was unable to study designing due to the expensive fees. Nonetheless, he is a self-taught designer and learnt by tutorials. Graphic/Web DesignerEarly yearsHis real passion was in car model design as he was interested in sketches of car model and abstract designs. Since, he was unable to study design, he took up management course, specifically risk management and continued designing for passion. Due to his inquisitive nature, he was able to pick up the technicalities of designing easily and continue to explore his creativity freedom in designing. He draws his inspiration from Malaysian designers who are in the field, such as Ramesh Harikrishnasamy, Vinoth Madivanan, Simon Shashi, Suresh Kalyanan, Kelvinated and DJ X-designs. With their knowledge, his interest in designing grew and he sought for knowledge through YouTube tutorials and personal practice on graphic software. School yearsBeing a self-taught designer, Yuvabalan used blogging as his personal platform to showcase his artwork, idea, tutorial and concept. Since developing a personal website will require knowledge on programming and coding, he came across an enthusiastic talented web coder, Tang Chi Hua, who was then 17 years old. Tang Chi Hua has his own personal flash chat site (VilGlitz.com). Tang assisted Yuvabalan in creating his own sub domain page, under the name yuvamindz.vilglitz.com. The partnership of Yuvabalan and Tang is still strong as they are working on some projects together to date. College yearsYuvabalan started designing in college as a hobby and not for the purpose of business. He started designing college brochures, flyers, banners and buntings for college functions and societies in college. The success of his design led him to even greater heights. However, due to the studies, he was unable to continue designing on a full-time basis. Besides, the college environment was not conducive for Yuvabalan to improve his designing skills as there was a lack of people of the same field in his college. This led Yuvabalan to explore blogging and social media as he started to work part-time for local artists and companies. He became very active in Malaysian Tamil Designers and continued to expand his work by meeting people with the same interest in social media. During this period of time, he worked extensively with Tang Chi Hua by developing more ideas and concepts. They decided to drop VilGlitz.com to create a beta social network to improve their skills and understanding of the World Wide Web. Among their projects are Twetdate.com, a social network identical to Friendster, Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. However, due to the lack of resources and the problematic social network scripts, this project failed to materialize. They continued to work on another social media outlet, specifically targeting Malaysian users. This led to bigger things as four other people joined them to materialize this project. Hence, Folkmash.com was built, a Malaysian social network with different features which allowed video chat. It gained popularity among college students and youngsters. Nonetheless, since Facebook (a larger and stronger social media) joint venture with Skype for video chat, Folkmash.com failed to compete against Facebook. These projects gave valuable knowledge and experience for both Yuvabalan and Tang Chi Hua. CareerUpon graduating, Yuvabalan join the army for a period of 3 months. He was very much involved in army and because a lans corporal. However, he stopped at there to focus on his career. While looking for a permanent job, he gained experience by doing designs for local shops and businesses. He briefly worked in Air Asia but stopped due to personal reason and started a joint business with his sister in real estate management. Since the change of lifestyle, graphic and web designs became more of a hobby and freelance job. Due to the increase of designers in the field, Yuvabalan was often caught in frustration, nonetheless he continued to grow as a designer and most of his clients are from London, Australia, India and Singapore.
