Engifest’18 was held from 16 to 18 February. It witnessed a footfall of more than 80,000 and participation from over 100 colleges across the country.[2] Engifest'19 will be held from 15 to 17 February.[3]

Introduction

Engifest is one of the largest college cultural festivals of the country, amongst others like Mood Indigo and Rendezvous.[4] It is a student-run non-profit organization which caters primarily to youth and its success. Engifest includes a variety of events such as car and bike show, drag racing, cultural performances, live wire-star night, rock shows,[5] plays on social problems, dances, and others. In the past Engifest has been studded by artists like Sunidhi Chauhan, Vishal–Shekhar, Mohit Chauhan,[6][7] Nucleya, DJ NYK, Boogie Frantick, Bhuvan Bam, VJ Bani, Aditi Arya, Salman Yusuff Khan, Kumar Vishwas, Karan Kundra, Hard Kaur,[8] Suraj Jagan, Raftaar, Manj Musik and Shibani Kashyap, Abijit Ganguly, Amit Trivedi, Guri, Bassjackers.

History

Engifest, otherwise known as Engineers' Fest is one of the oldest college cultural festivals in the country, dating back to 1974. It was first started by students of the Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering.[9]

By 2014, the fest had gained immense popularity due to a diverse range of events and performances by artists and celebrities such as Mohit Chauhan and Hard Kaur.[10] In 2015, the festival improved upon its range with performances from Raftaar, Manj Musik, and more.

The year 2016 was bigger and magnified by the artistry of the spectacular duo Vishal Shekhar, king of online comedy Bhuvan Bam, Aditi Arya, the music band Lagori, Lost stories, and many more. The limits were pushed further and a larger than before carnival was created in 2017 where the huge audience swayed to the music of Sunidhi Chauhan, Nucleya, Lagori, Shtuby (an Israeli band), Drum N Red.[11] A thousand hearts sang along the rhymes of soulful poetry by Piyush Mishra. The year 2018 took Engifest to new heights. Stand-up comedian Abijit Ganguly, musician Amit Trivedi, Punjabi singer Guri, and DJ MAG #35 Bassjackers on the EDM night performed live. For Engifest'19, DJ MAG #25, Quintino would be performing live.[12][13]

Every year, Engifest aims at showcasing talent from all across the country; it makes it more interesting for the audience by introducing a theme. The theme of Engifest'16 was The Villanes Theme, where bad was declared as the new sexy. The theme of Engifest'17 was Infinity; the celestial decorations, heavenly ambiance and stellar performances were in perfect consonance with the theme. The theme of Engifest'18 was A City Rekindled,where the soul of Delhi was brought alive by various indigenous artforms and showcasing the fusion of traditional arts with the modern era, bringing back the unique essence of The City. The theme of Engifest'19 is Rise above Reality, where we shall push the boundaries of reality, gray the lines between actuality and illusion.

Engifest DTU has always believed in pushing the envelope further and further, by challenging its previous success and creating a bigger stage every year for the skilled youth of the country. The festival's objective is to collaborate with institutions far and wide and stage young talent and since its inception it has always proudly lived up to it. It has grown bigger, crossing footfalls over 500,000 and collaborating with more than 250 institutions across the country. The festival is observed in the month of February annually.

Events

Competitions are held pre-dominantly in the genres of Dance, Music, Indoor Sports, Dramatics, Fine Arts, Film and Photography (Digital), Literature, Debating and Quizzing. Teams from various colleges participate in these events to win prizes and showcase their talents.[14]

Main Events

Campus Princess - Miss India Organization

Campus Princess, is a preliminary round for Femina Miss India, where the top 20 participants walk the ramp to be shortlisted for subsequent rounds. Elegance, panache and finesse are some adjectives that could do justice to the event's description. Campus Princess is an event of great distinction and has always been high in fashion quotient. At Engifest’16, it was judged by Miss India World 2015 - Aditi Arya. At Engifest'2017, Pankhuri Gidwani, the runner up of Miss India' 2016 or Miss Grand India' 2016 was the honourable judge.

NUKKAD and NATYA

Pratibimb, the dramatics society of DTU organizes NUKKAD – Street play competition and NATYA – Stage play competition. Where Nukkad is an open ground event that encompasses street acting in all its forms by enacting social issues, Natya is a theatrical competition that brings together a myriad of emotions and stories on one stage. Young artists and teams from colleges in and outside Delhi participate to deliver powerful and breath-taking performances amusing not only theatre enthusiasts but also the rest of the audience.

Do Re Mi Pa : A Musical Extravaganza

Madhurima, The Music Society of DTU organizes various musical events. Young singers and teams participate in variegated competitions like: Vocalicious, the western solo singing competition, Balladeers - Western group singing competition, Vrind - Indian Group Singing, Engi Idol - Indian solo singing competition.

Engifest'17 was no exception when it came to showcasing the finest musical talent among college students across the nation. Artists and musicians took centre stage at Do Re Mi Pa by participating in various events such as Acoustic Alchemy (Unplugged band competition), Two's a show (Duet competition) in addition to Vocalicious, Balladeers, Vrind and Engi Idol.

Syaahi - The Literary Fest

Brimming with literary enthusiasm, Syaahi is an amalgamation of logical, linguistic and debating prowess. Syaahi consists of a plethora of exciting events such as War of Words, Kaavyanjana, Drishtikon, Creative Writing, Mixed Bag and Jam designed to engage and entertain the grey cells of one's wit and wisdom. Syaahi is organised by Sahitya, the Literary Society of DTU.

Spandan – The Western Dance Competition

Saltare, the western dance society of DTU organizes the western dance competition: Spandan. It provides a competitive environment for dancers to showcase their talent. It consists of different categories like Solo dance competition and Western group dance competition. Spandan is all about enthusiasm, fervour, a fever for dance and adrenaline rushes.

The Engi Quiz

A quiz spreading over 9 rounds with two prelim slots. The Engi Quiz is the perfect platform for the General Knowledge lovers to flaunt their knowledge in various areas such as current affairs: national and global .The event which is a lucrative exhibition of general proficiency and know how is organised by the Quiz Club of DTU, Delhi'42.

Shakedown

Car Drag Racing Event, Super Bike Show, Car & Bike Stunts, Car show and Car Audio Event are some events pertaining to this maddening and dumbfounding event called Shakedown. It is an audience favourite owing to the craziness and fervour exhibited by the racers with their extraordinary performances. When the walls of the college foundation echo with screams and roars, it isn't tough to interpret which event is going on.

Anushthaan : Classical Dance Competition

Anushthaan, organized by Nrityangana, The Classical Dance Society of DTU, consists of performances ranging from Gujarat's Garba to Punjab’s Bhangra, from Bharatnatyam to Kathak. Anusthaan is a salute to the beauty of diversity characteristic to India, it is a glorification of sophistication and poise, the key ingredients of classical dance or 'Nritya'.

Kaleidoscope Film Festival

Kaleidoscope is the official film festival of Engifest, conducted by Parchhayi, the photography and film making society of DTU. Magnificent works of art in the form of short films are showcased and judged by prominent figures in the film industry. Kaleidoscope offers the most soulful tales in the form of short films screened on a 70 mm screen. It is an event which experiences the most beautiful fusion of art and culture.

Paridhan – The Fashion Parade

A celebration of beauty, confidence and grace, Paridhan is a festival of glamour where the models walk down the ramp with flair setting the stage on fire and infecting the audience with a frenzy for fashion. Paridhan generally takes place on the second day of the Engifest. It is organised by Panache, The Fashion and Designing society of DTU.

Through the years, Engifest has been attracting sponsorship owing to its popularity and immense participation from all across the country. The fest has had its proud association with prominent names such as Pepsi, Nestle, Forever 21, Stryker Corporation, ShopClues, Jawed Habib, Monte Carlo, Sabhyata, PokerBaazi, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, PayTM, Nexa, IOCL, Nearbuy, Birla Sun Life, Intex, Aqualite, Zoomcar, Manforce, The Embassy of Israel and many more.

The print media partner of Engifest is Hindustan Times whereas its prominent digital media partners include All India Radio, 9x Jalwa including others.[15]

There were over 100 sponsors for Engifest'18. It had been associated with starmaker, Pepsi, Honda, Coding Blocks, LIC, Radisson Blu, Jaypee Group, Nestle, IDFC, TATA Tea, Lenskart, Panasonic, Kotak, Nexa, Indian Oil and many more.

Engifest'19 is co-presented by Pepsi and Helo. The EDM night is sponsored by TOO YUMM! and is powered by GrooveNexus.
