It grows in scattered populations in pine forests and other shaded slopes at elevations of {{convert|1200|-|1600|m|ft|abbr=on}}.[1]Eryngium jaliscense is a perennial with a single stem up to {{convert|140|cm|in|abbr=on}} tall. Leaves are long and linear, tapering toward the tip and with long hairs along the margins. Basal leaves are up to {{convert|55|cm|in|abbr=on}} long but less than {{convert|1|cm|in|abbr=on}} across.
