BackgroundThe film resulted from director Gregory Greene having attended a Paris conference on peak oil in 2003. Returning to Canada, he devised a trilogy of non fiction films addressing the issues global peaking of oil supplies adversely affecting modern civilization. The first of his trilogy, The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream, deals with the problem of rising world costs in the face of dwindling supplies.[6] The second in the trilogy, Escape From Suburbia: Beyond the American Dream, outlines how the issue will affect modern life styles and speaks toward solutions.[1][7] The film first aired on Sundance Channel in 2007,[8] and re-aired as part of their The Green television series.[9] References1. ^1 {{cite news|last=Burrows|first=Matthew|title=Peak oil director aims for sea change|url=https://www.straight.com/article-105730/news-from-hollywood-north|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=Straight|date=August 16, 2007}} 2. ^{{cite news|title=Documentary eyes sustainable future|url=http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/arts/story.html?id=3a4d9677-ea0c-4790-ae78-892adfc02e45|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=Times Colonist|date=November 19, 2008}} 3. ^{{cite news|last=Irwin|first=Tara |subscription=yes|title=Plotting an escape route: Greg Greene goes back to Suburbia|url=http://business.highbeam.com/416338/article-1G1-161399378/plotting-escape-route-greg-greene-goes-back-suburbia|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141229160015/http://business.highbeam.com/416338/article-1G1-161399378/plotting-escape-route-greg-greene-goes-back-suburbia|dead-url=yes|archive-date=December 29, 2014|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=The Magazine|date=March 1, 2007}} 4. ^{{cite news|last=Ballamingie|first=Patricia |subscription=yes|title=Suburban Dystopia and the Threat of Peak Oil: A Review of the Videos The End of Suburbia, Escape from Suburbia and Radiant City|url=http://business.highbeam.com/79524/article-1G1-215117720/suburban-dystopia-and-threat-peak-oil-review-videos|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141229160955/http://business.highbeam.com/79524/article-1G1-215117720/suburban-dystopia-and-threat-peak-oil-review-videos|dead-url=yes|archive-date=December 29, 2014|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=Environments|date=January 1, 2008}} 5. ^{{cite news|last=Hume|first=Christopher |subscription=yes|title=It's not too late to change world|url=https://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/thestar/access/1296030321.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&type=current&date=Jun+28%2C+2007&author=Christopher+Hume&pub=Toronto+Star&desc=It's+not+too+late+to+change+world&pqatl=google|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=Toronto Star|date=June 28, 2007}} 6. ^{{cite news|last=Canavor|first=Natalie|title=Running on Empty (page 2-4)|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/13/nyregion/13LI.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&sq&st=nyt&scp=1|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=The New York Times|date=March 13, 2005}} 7. ^{{cite news|last=Baldwin|first=Natylie|title=The New Frontier|url=http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Aug06/Baldwin07.htm|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=Dissident Voice|date=August 7, 2006}} 8. ^{{cite web|title=Escape From Suburbia: Beyond the American Dream|url=http://www.sundancechannel.com/films/escape-from-suburbia-beyond-the-american-dream-part-2/|publisher=Sundance Channel|accessdate=August 10, 2012}} 9. ^{{cite news|title=‘Green’ begins season with look at eco-visionary|url=http://www.vindy.com/news/2008/mar/31/8216green8217-begins-season-with-look-at/|accessdate=August 10, 2012|newspaper=Youngstown Vindicator|date=March 31, 2008}} External links
