Its administrative centre is located in the city of Henichesk. Population: {{Ua-pop-est2015|59,870}} The raion has a 10% Crimean Tatar minority, with the Tatar population reaching 50% in two villages.[1] This minority is a result of a 1967 Soviet decree that restored Tatar rights lost during the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatars.[1][1] Because de jure they were not allowed to return to their Crimea homeland, some Tatars settled in nearby places, including Henichesk Raion.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.massviolence.org/Surgun-The-Crimean-Tatars-deportation-and-exile?artpage=1#outil_sommaire_0 |title=Sürgün: The Crimean Tatars’ deportation and exile|work=Online Encyclopedia of Mass Violence|issn=1961-9898 |publisher=Massviolence.org |author=Aurélie Campana|date= 16 June 2008 |accessdate=2014-03-25}} 2. ^1 2 {{uk icon}} Temporary Crimea, Ukrayinska Pravda (20 August 2014) External links{{commonscat-inline|Henichesk Raion}}{{Kherson Oblast}}{{Kherson-geo-stub}} 3 : Henichesk Raion|Raions of Kherson Oblast|Crimean Tatars |
