The United States Indian Arts and Crafts Board is an agency within the Department of the Interior whose mission is to "promote the economic development of American Indians and Alaska Natives through the expansion of the Indian arts and crafts market".[1] It was established in 1935 by the Indian Reorganization Act.[2] The Board provides advice and promotional activities and oversees the operation of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990. It also operates three museums: the Sioux Indian Museum, housed in The Journey Museum in Rapid City, South Dakota; the Museum of the Plains Indian in Browning, Montana; and the Southern Plains Indian Museum in Anadarko, Oklahoma.[3] As part of its program to promote American Indian and Alaska Native arts and crafts, the Indian Arts and Crafts Board produces the Source Directory of American Indian and Alaska Native Owned and Operated Arts and Crafts Businesses. There are approximately 400 businesses listed in the Source Directory. These businesses include American Indian or Alaska Native arts and crafts cooperatives and Tribal arts and crafts enterprises; businesses and galleries privately owned and operated by individuals, designers, craftspeople, and artists who are enrolled members of federally recognized Tribes; and a few nonprofit organizations, managed by enrolled members of federally recognized Tribes, that develop and market arts and crafts products.[4] Some of the businesses listed in the Source Directory maintain retail shops or open studios. Others sell by appointment or mail order only. This information is provided in the listing, along with business hours, contact information, major products, catalog information, mail order, and special services offered. Businesses are listed alphabetically by state.[4] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Indian Arts and Crafts Board Mission |url=http://www.doi.gov/iacb/mission.html |publisher=US Department of the Interior |accessdate=13 August 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120905023353/http://www.doi.gov/iacb/mission.html |archivedate=5 September 2012 |df=dmy-all }} 2. ^{{cite web|title=Indian Arts and Crafts Board|url=http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/285644/Indian-Arts-and-Crafts-Board|work=Encyclopædia Britannica|accessdate=13 August 2012}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Indian Arts and Crafts Board Museums |url=http://www.doi.gov/iacb/museums/general_museum.html |publisher=US Department of the Interior |accessdate=13 August 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120905023333/http://www.doi.gov/iacb/museums/general_museum.html |archivedate=5 September 2012 |df=dmy-all }} 4. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://www.doi.gov/iacb/source-directory|title=Source Directory of Arts and Crafts Businesses|publisher=U.S. Department of the Interior|accessdate=7 October 2016}} {{PD-notice}} External links
