Sir John Hunter (died 3 July 1816) was British Consul-General in Madras, Seville and St Lucar, Spain.^[1]

He was knighted by the Prince Regent on 10 December 1813.

He married in 1787 Margaret Congalton, daughter of Dr Charles Congalton, and secondly in 1793 Elizabeth Barbara Arbuthnot, daughter of Robert Keith Arbuthnot, 2nd of Haddo Rattray, and sister of Sir William Arbuthnot, 1st Baronet.

He is the father, through his first marriage, of Margaret Congalton Hunter, spouse of Captain Basil Hall.
