He also swam the 100-metre freestyle and the 4×200-metre freestyle, not reaching the finals. In the 4×100-metre medley, Aranha took the relay at 8th place and exceeded 3 countries, finishing in 5th. In the 4×100-metre freestyle, he came in 6th place and closed at 4th, a half second to win the bronze. Despite his great results in the relays, he never was the Brazilian record holder of the 100-metre freestyle.[1][2][9] At the 1973 Summer Universiade, in Moscow, Aranha won a bronze medal in the 4×200-metre freestyle, along with José Namorado, James Huxley Adams and Alfredo Machado.[10][11] Participated at the inaugural World Aquatics Championships in 1973 Belgrade, where he finished 5th in the 4×100-metre freestyle, along with Ruy de Oliveira, José Namorado and James Huxley Adams.[12] He also swam the 4×200-metre freestyle, finishing 11th, with the same team.[13] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web|title = Sports Reference Profile|work=Sports Reference|year = 2013|url = https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ar/jose-roberto-aranha-1.html|accessdate =May 5, 2013}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Aranha, Jose}}2. ^1 {{cite web|title = EXPECTATIONS OF OLYMPIC MEDALS X REALITY|work=Best Swimming|date = May 28, 2008|url = http://www.bestswimming.com.br/conteudo.php?i=8946|accessdate =May 5, 2013|language=pt}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=O GLOBO News Archive - July 31, 1967, Morning, Sports, page 9|url=http://duyt0k3aayxim.cloudfront.net/PDFs_XMLs_paginas/o_globo/1967/07/31/01-edicao_matutina/02-edicao_esportiva/ge310767009ESP1-1234_g.jpg|publisher=O GLOBO|accessdate=1 September 2013}}{{dead link|date=December 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 4. ^O GLOBO News Archive 5. ^{{cite web | title = Brazil medals at 1971 Pan | work = UOL | year = 2007 | url = http://pan.uol.com.br/pan/2007/historia/1971/nopodio.jhtm | accessdate = May 5, 2013|language=pt}} 6. ^{{cite web|title=O GLOBO News Archive - August 9, 1971, Evening, General, page 42 |url=http://duyt0k3aayxim.cloudfront.net/PDFs_XMLs_paginas/o_globo/1971/08/09/02-edicao_final/01-primeira_secao/ge090871042PRM2-1234_g.jpg |publisher=O GLOBO |accessdate=29 August 2013 }}{{dead link|date=April 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 7. ^{{cite web|title=O GLOBO News Archive - August 10, 1971, Morning, General, page 24 |url=http://duyt0k3aayxim.cloudfront.net/PDFs_XMLs_paginas/o_globo/1971/08/10/01-primeira_secao/ge100871024PRM1-1234_g.jpg |publisher=O GLOBO |accessdate=29 August 2013 }}{{dead link|date=April 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 8. ^{{cite web|title=O GLOBO News Archive - August 12, 1971, Morning, General, page 24|url=http://duyt0k3aayxim.cloudfront.net/PDFs_XMLs_paginas/o_globo/1971/08/12/01-primeira_secao/ge120871024PRM1-1234_g.jpg|publisher=O GLOBO|accessdate=29 August 2013}}{{dead link|date=December 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 9. ^{{cite web|title = EVOLUTION OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN RECORD OF 100 FREE-MALE|work=Best Swimming|date = February 16, 2008|url = http://www.bestswimming.com.br/conteudo.php?i=7972|accessdate =May 5, 2013|language=pt}} 10. ^{{cite web|title=HISTORY OF BRAZIL'S MEDALS IN UNIVERSIADES |work=Best Swimming |date=August 13, 2007 |url=http://www.bestswimming.com.br/2013/2007/08/13/histria-das-medalhas-do-brasil-nas-universades-7195/ |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131108234950/http://www.bestswimming.com.br/2013/2007/08/13/histria-das-medalhas-do-brasil-nas-universades-7195/ |dead-url=yes |archive-date=November 8, 2013 |accessdate=May 31, 2013 |language=pt }} 11. ^O GLOBO News Archive - September 7, 1973, Morning, General, page 33 12. ^{{cite web|title = Results at 1973 Belgrade|work=USA Swimming|year = 2013|url = http://www.usaswimming.org/_Rainbow/Documents/003155e0-ee73-4de4-8b14-ac12cf1feb5f/73_worlds_champ.pdf|accessdate =May 5, 2013}} 13. ^O GLOBO News Archive - September 7, 1973, Morning, General, page 33 14 : 1951 births|Living people|Brazilian male swimmers|Swimmers at the 1967 Pan American Games|Swimmers at the 1968 Summer Olympics|Swimmers at the 1971 Pan American Games|Swimmers at the 1972 Summer Olympics|Olympic swimmers of Brazil|Sportspeople from São Paulo|Pan American Games silver medalists for Brazil|Pan American Games bronze medalists for Brazil|Male freestyle swimmers|Pan American Games medalists in swimming|Universiade medalists in swimming |
