It is located in the southwest of the krai, and borders with Ulyotovsky District in the north. The area of the district is {{convert|16200|km2|sp=us}}.[2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Kyra.[3] Population: {{ru-census2010|13,650|;}} 16,016 (2002 Census);[5] {{su-census1989|19,593|.}} The population of Kyra accounts for 33.4% of the district's total population.
