Sholavaram is a suburb, {{convert|24|km|mi|abbr=on}} north of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is primarily known for the Sholavaram lake and the adjoining defunct motor racing track. The race track was used as an air strip during World War II; racing events were conducted between the early 1960s and the late 1980s. Racing events usually took place every year until the Madras Motor Sports Club built a new track at Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur, Chennai. The famous Malayalam actor Jayan was killed in a helicopter accident here during the shooting of his film Kolilakkam on 16 November 1980. See also
