释义 |
He worked with biochemist Evangelina Villegas for 35 years to develop a protein enriched form of maize in the 1970s.[3] Quality Protein Maize (QPM) is created by adding protein to low nutrient corn and is prevalent in China, Mexico, parts of Central America, and Africa today and is referenced as "miracle maize" because of its role in alleviating malnourishment. In addition to improving the nutritional value of maize, its productivity was also increased. They were jointly awarded the World Food Prize in 2000 for their development of Quality Protein Maize at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico.[4] Vasal is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.[2] References1. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.isaaa.org/kc/cropbiotechupdate/features/vassalvillegas.htm |title= CBTNews Features |publisher=ISAAA.or |date= 2016 | accessdate=6 May 2016}} 2. ^1 {{cite web | url=http://naasindia.org/fdetail.html#V007 | title=Foreign Fellow | publisher=National Academy of Agricultural Sciences | date=2016 | accessdate=6 May 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.isaaa.org/kc/cropbiotechupdate/features/vassalvillegas.htm |title=Dr. Surinder Vasal and Dr. Evangelina Villegas |publisher= ISAAA |date= |accessdate=2012-05-12}} 4. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.agbioworld.org/newsletter_wm/index.php?caseid=archive&newsid=725 |title= "Nobel Prize for Food": World Food Prize to Maize |publisher= AgBioWorld |date= 2000-09-06 |accessdate= 2012-05-12}} External links
