}}A Little Late with Lilly Singh is an upcoming late-night talk show that will be broadcast by NBC. The program, which will replace Last Call with Carson Daly in its 1:35 a.m. ET/PT time slot, will be hosted by Canadian comedian and YouTuber Lilly Singh. The series is expected to premiere in September 2019.[1]

History

Last Call with Carson Daly had aired on NBC since 2002 as the third and final original program of the network's late-night lineup, behind Late Night and The Tonight Show; NBC has programmed original late-night programming in the 1:00 a.m. time slot since 1973, and Tomorrow, NBC News Overnight, SCTV, Later, The Midnight Special, Friday Night Videos, Friday Night and Late Friday had all filled the time slot before Daly's arrival.

Last Call was initially a talk show, but was later reformatted as a documentary-style entertainment program, with segments featuring interviews and performances recorded on-location. As Daly gained more prominent on-air roles at NBC, such as host of The Voice and becoming the social media correspondent for Today, his role and presence on Last Call was largely reduced to wraparound segments within the episodes.[2] On February 12, 2019, NBC announced that Last Call would conclude after its 2,000th and final episode, with an air date to be announced. Daly cited his desire to focus on Today, The Voice, and other new opportunities (including a planned series for Golf Channel) as reasoning.[1]

NBC stated that it intended to replace Last Call with a new program.[2][1] On March 14, 2019, NBC announced that YouTube celebrity Lilly "IISuperwomanII" Singh would host a new talk show in its time slot, A Little Late with Lilly Singh. That night, Singh appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the upcoming program. With the show's premiere, Singh will become the first woman among the current generation of late-night hosts on the major broadcast networks, and the first to ever identify as bisexual.[3] The series will be executive produced by Singh and her business partner Polly Auritt (head of development for Singh's studio Unicorn Island Productions).[4]
