He was elected as the Labour Party MP for Enfield Southgate in 2017.[2] Early lifeCharalambous was born in London and raised in Bowes Park, Enfield and has lived there all his life.[3] His parents come from Kalo Chorio and Fasoulla, both near Limassol, in Cyprus.[4][5] He was educated at Tottenhall Infants School, St Michael-at-Bowes Junior School (where he is now a school governor), Chace Boys Comprehensive School, followed by Tottenham College and then Liverpool Polytechnic[6] where he received a law degree and was elected as vice president of the Students' Union in 1990. CareerCharalambous is a solicitor, and worked for Hackney Council in their housing litigation team. Following the election, Charalambous resigned from his legal job with Hackney Council.[7] Until the local elections of 2018, at which he stood down, he had been a member of Enfield Council since 1994 for the Palmers Green Ward, and was an Associate Cabinet Member.[8] Parliamentary careerCharalambous was the official Labour Party candidate for Epping Forest in 2005 and for Enfield Southgate in 2010 and 2015, before being elected in 2017.[3] He became the first MP to have both parents born in Cyprus.
