It is a Grade II* listed building.[1][2] The church is dedicated to Hugh of Lincoln. It was built in 1908 by W. D. Caroe, on the initiative of the Rev. Menzies Lambrick,[3] from the former welfare hall for the local lead miners.[4] The roof-truss, screen, rood, and altar are all made of carved whitened oak, with fittings in the Arts and Crafts style.[3] The walls are rough brick and it has a tiled roof. It includes stained glass by Horace Wilkinson showing the nativity scene.[1] A cross in the churchyard[5] and the churchyard wall[6] are also listed buildings. It is part of the benefice of Blagdon with Compton Martin and Ubley within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.[7] References{{Commons Category|St Hugh's church, Charterhouse, Somerset}}1. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Church of St Hugh|url=https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1307304|publisher=Historic England|accessdate=30 October 2015}} 2. ^{{cite web | title=Church of St Hugh | work=Images of England | url=http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=268094 | accessdate=29 October 2006}} 3. ^1 {{cite journal |quotes= |last=Staveacre |first=Tony |authorlink= |coauthors= |date=December 2006 |title=Christmas at Charterhouse |journal=Mendip Times |volume=2 |issue=7 |pages=8 }} 4. ^{{cite web|last1=Birks|first1=Jean|title=Charterhouse|url=http://mikek.org.uk/friendsrlm/03_charterhouse.pdf|publisher=Friends of the Somerset Rural Life Museum|accessdate=30 October 2015}} 5. ^{{cite web | title=Churchyard Cross in churchyard, Church of St Hugh | work=Images of England | url=http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=268095 | accessdate=29 October 2006}} 6. ^{{cite web | title=Churchyard Wall to Church of St Hugh | work=Images of England | url=http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=268096 | accessdate=29 October 2006}} 7. ^{{cite web|title=St Hugh, Charterhouse-on-Mendip|url=http://www.achurchnearyou.com/charterhouse-st-hugh/|website=A Church Near You|publisher=Church of England|accessdate=30 October 2015}} 3 : Grade II* listed buildings in Mendip District|Grade II* listed churches in Somerset|20th-century Church of England church buildings |
