Following the Battle of Kurikara, Minamoto no Yoshinaka caught up with the retreating Taira no Munemori. An archery duel by champions on both sides preceded general fighting, which included several celebrated instances of single combat. Victory went to the Minamoto. However, Yoshinaka's old retainer, Saito Sanemori, was a casualty.[1][2] References1. ^{{Cite book |last=Turnbull |first=Stephen |title=The Samurai Sourcebook |publisher=Cassell & Co. |year=1998 |ISBN=1854095234 |page=202}} {{coord missing|Japan}}{{Japan-battle-stub}}2. ^{{Cite book |translator=Burton Watson |title=The Tales of the Heike |publisher=Columbia University Press |year=2006 |ISBN=9780231138031 |page=74}} 4 : 1180s in Japan|1183 in Asia|Battles of the Genpei War|Conflicts in 1183 |
