He is a founding member of the band Princeton.[2] Furthermore, he has released several albums as a solo artist, including 2013's Double Exposure, which received an 8.0 review from Pitchfork,[3] and 2016's Fires on the Plain, which features performances by Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and Sophia Knapp. Recording career{{see also|Princeton (band)}}Kivel co-founded Princeton in Santa Monica, California in 2003. The band would go on to release two EPs and two full-length LP's, performing alongside acts including Phoenix, Vampire Weekend[3] and Camera Obscura. The members of Princeton stopped performing and writing together in 2012. In 2013, Kivel released his debut solo album, Double Exposure, on the Olde English Spelling Bee record label.[3] The next year, he released another more album, Days of Being Wild on the Woodsist record label, as well as recorded Janus. [6][7] Janus was produced by Scottish songwriter Alasdair Roberts and released by Driftless Recordings in January 2016.[7] In 2016, Kivel recorded and released his fourth album Fires on the Plain, which shares a title with the post-WWII film by Kon Ichikawa. The album is his longest to date, and features many additional musicians, including Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, Will Oldham, and Sophia Knapp. It was released by Driftless Recordings in October 2016.[9] Discography
